Use SEER to Find the Most Efficient Air Conditioner
How to Find the Most Efficient Air Conditioner
If you’ve decided it’s time to purchase a new air conditioner for your home, there are most likely a lot of things running through your mind about making this big investment! One of the most important aspects to consider is how you’ll find the most efficient air conditioner that will help lower your utility bills while keeping all rooms cool and comfortable throughout the hot summer season.
Finding the most efficient air conditioner isn’t as daunting of a task as it sounds. In fact, each air conditioner comes with a numbered rating that will let you know exactly how efficient it is! This number is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, or, more commonly known as SEER.
An air conditioner’s SEER number is calculated by the cooling output from the unit in a typical cooling season divided by the total electric energy input during the same time period.
The higher the SEER number, the more efficient your unit will be. If your unit is more efficient, it will use less energy to operate and thus lower your utility bills while effectively cooling your home! As an additional bonus, having a more efficient air conditioning unit that uses less energy will have a positive impact on the environment too, as the carbon footprint from using an A/C will be reduced.
It’s important to note that the highest SEER air conditioner is not always the one that will best fit your home. You also want to base your decision on the size and capacity of the air conditioner. The highest SEER is not always available in the system that best fits your home, so you should consider both when choosing to upgrade.
